Frost struggled for recognition in the U.S. early in his career. In 1912, he moved to England, where he met literary figures like Ezra Pound and published his first book of poetry, A Boy’s Will. This success abroad helped him gain recognition in the U.S. when he returned. Much later, In 1961, he became the first poet to recite at a U.S. presidential inauguration when he read "The Gift Outright" at John F. Kennedy’s inauguration. Frost had initially written a new poem for the occasion, but the sun's glare made it hard for him to read, so he recited "The Gift Outright" from memory.
